Iris are water plants that grow very well in water or in regular soil. As a bog plant they add color to any pond or stream and help prevent erosion. The iris flower has become a mainstay in all water gardens. Irises by their nature produce hardy and beautiful flowers each year, and the Louisiana Iris is one of the most durable the iris culture.

Planting: The pot can be entirely submerged under several inches of water or it may be exposed with just its base in the water. The important thing here is that the soil needs to be like wet mud. The width of the pot should be at least eighteen inches in diameter, for the rhizome needs room to multiply and expand with its offshoots. The soil mixture in the pot is important. Put heavier soil, like clay, in the bottom six inches of the pot. The clay will help support the root system. Fill the remainder of the pot with compact top soil. Plant the rhizome about one and one-half inch beneath the top-soil. Pack firmly.
